Abstracting The Wild Coast

  • Newlyn School of Art Chywoone Hill Penzance, England, TR18 5AW United Kingdom (map)

Join me on this 3 day painting workshop held at the Newlyn School of Art, Cornwall. This experimental workshop is an opportunity for you to discover new ways to see and interpret the landscape.

We will be using a variety of materials as we learn about layers and contrasts. Through the use of mixed media we explore how different mark-making can suggest elements of the landscape to create abstract paintings.

During the 3 days we will head out to various locations along the Penwith coastline. Participants must be willing to be out in all sorts of weather. We can’t predict the weather but that’s what makes landscape painting so thrilling.

As well as being out on location, a large part of the workshop is studio based. You will learn new techniques through demonstrations and have the opportunity to try new processes and ways of creating marks.

We end the 3 days with a reflection of the things we have learnt and ways to move forward with our art making. The atmosphere is always nurturing and we each respect the journey we are all on to develop our own visual language.

As with all the workshops, you don’t need to be an experienced artist! Just a willingness to be open and play and enjoy being outside.
